He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered those with arrogant thoughts and proud inclinations. He has pulled the powerful down from their thrones and lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty-handed. Luke 1:51-53

Lifting Up the Lowly

Our Lenten study will be Luke by Adam Hamilton. This Sunday our own Tom Knight will be teaching the first chapter entitled “Lifting Up the Lowly”.  Tom always brings  us  a well thought out and  prepared lesson. There are several Bible  verses  associated  with  this  lesson. One of them is Luke 2:6,7: “While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

The Artists of CUC

The Artists of RUMC II, Charis Gallery’s new exhibit in the Sanctuary building, opened this past Sunday, featuring 39 works by 16 RUMC artists. Some of the art works displayed are by members of our CUC Class. Jan BuckleyBarbara  CookLarry  Hunt, and Hazel  Pearce are  among  the artists represented. Perri Johamnaber, daughter of Gale & Roger Dave is also one of the exhibitors.  Many of the works are available to purchase. The exhibit will be on display through Sunday, April 7. Be sure to stop by and see these works of art.

 Murphy-Harpst Birthday Party

For several years our CUC Class has hosted a birthday party for residents at Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center in Cedartown, GA.  This year our group will be going on March 16 to this Methodist home for teenagers so abused and neglected that the State of Georgia sends them there for individualized therapy.   Here they find a safe, inviting place to live among peers, go to school, and enjoy recreation.  Five residents have birthdays in March, so each will receive a $25 Walmart gift card.  We expect the number of residents and staff attending to be about 80.  A tour of the campus is available for visitors that day.

This coming Sunday a signup sheet will be passed around in class.  Please consider being part of this mission, especially if you have not been there before. Volunteers are necessary for this effort!  You will be blessed.   For the next two or three Sundays a basket will come around for donations toward party expenses.

Thank you, The CUC Mission Outreach Committee

CUC Supports HomeStretch

Here is a testimonial as reinforcement of the great work going on at HomeStretch thanks to, in a large part, on behalf of our caring and generous CUC class which supports  the HomeStretch program  with  regular  donations:

“My name is Brittany Phillips and me and my three children have lived here at home stretched since July 6th 2023. Before coming to this program I had graduated Mary Hall freedom village in February and was living with my children in an extended stay in the Roswell area on the search for affordable housing. As a single mom with three children you can be extremely hard to find something that is affordable and sustainable for me and my family. After reaching out to home stretch and making the necessary changes in my life and my work schedule to fit the requirements of this program we were in a home by July. Since coming here I can honestly say that the feeling of community that I receive here is overwhelming. Life is always happening on life’s terms and there are things that we cannot control however here at home stretch I have honestly realized that it’s all about the people you’re surrounded by and the resources at your disposal how you deal with those things. I had a frightful situation happened around New years with one of my children and home stretch rallyed around me and the office staff was so supportive to get me through this situation. I have learned so much about managing my financials and taking care of myself while I have been here and I feel closer and closer every day towards my goal of long-term stability and owning a home for myself and my children. Miss Cheryl Carter the director is one of the most hands on people I have ever met. She checks on me and my children constantly. She is always there if we ever have any questions or concerns. I know that a lot of directors say they have an open door policy but this woman absolutely means it when she says it if you need her she’s there and it’s amazing, along with her staff I have never felt more at home or welcome in a place. Mr Chris Ambrose is amazing with our children there’s never been a single time that he has missed a birthday or miss an opportunity to help out in any sort of situation. That’s very important especially for me being a single mom with two out of three of my children being boys because sometimes they just need a heart to heart with another gentleman and he’s always there for those type things as well as many other of their school and educational needs. Home stretch is a great place to build stability for your family and for your future and I feel so grateful and blessed to be able to be a part of this program and I hope to continue learning more and more and one day be able to give back to this wonderful program that gave so much to me and my family I look forward to my next year and a half here and know the sky is the limit.”
