Earl Thompson update

Dick Copeland writes concerning an update on his father-in- law Earl Thompson:

First, thank you for the prayers, cards, and encouraging words.  We draw strength from them and feel lifted up and encouraged.

Earl will probably have surgery to remove the tumor in his bladder sometime within the next 3 days, depending on available slots in the surgeon’s schedule.  His condition is reasonably stable, considering his age and all of the medical challenges that accompany being 92 years old, but this will be pretty serious surgery for him.

Meanwhile, he remains in Northside Cherokee Hospital.  Mary Lee spends most of her time at the hospital with him, and Eva and I (and Becky) are back and forth between the hospital and home a lot.

I will try to update you as soon as we know more.  Thanks again for everything – especially the prayers!

Dick

Peggy Rodway request your prayers

Please include prayer requests for John Machen.  He and Jean are RUMC members and are friends of  a number of our classmates.

He had surgery  yesterday (January 18) at Emory to remove the tongue and larynx and will be at Emory for a week or two.

This was a life-altering surgery, so pray for him and Jean as he heals.

Peggy

Prayers for Sandra Nauman

As most of you know, Sandra Nauman had surgery on Tuesday (1/17) for the removal of a renal cell carcinoma on her kidney.

The surgery went well and she is scheduled for release from the hospital today or Friday.

Please pray for Sandra as she recovers from this serious surgery.

Continue Your Prayers for John Mills

John reports that his bladder cancer is in remission and thanks all of you for your prayers.  There is now another complication.

John has developed prostate cancer which is quite far advanced.  Instead of a traditional procedures such as radiation or radical surgery, there is a relatively recently developed procedure called cryotherapy.

This out patient procedure uses very cold argon gas to freeze the affected cancer cells.  The procedure will be scheduled soon.

Please pray for John and Mary Kay as they deal with this new development.

Pray for Mary Lee Copeland’s Father

Dick writes:

Mary Lee’s father, Earl Thompson (92), who has been with us at church and in CUC many times, is in Northside Hospital, Cherokee, where Mary Lee had to take him yesterday (January 17) after a tumor was discovered in his bladder.

He is being treated for blood clots related to the tumor in preparation for surgery sometime in the next few days. Please keep Earl, his wife Eva (90), Mary Lee and the rest of our family in your prayers as we go through this difficult time.

I will try to keep you updated as changes occur. Thanks to you and all of CUC for all you do, but mainly for being such a group of wonderful praying and caring Christians.
Dick (Copeland)

Please pray for Earl, his wife Eva and Mary Lee.

An Update on Judy Zierk

Judy had colon surgery this past Monday and remains in the hospital.  Dal has been keeping us up to date on her progress and he wrote this yesterday:

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.  Starting yesterday (Wednesday) in the afternoon and evening, Judy has felt much better.  Although Judy is in the normal pain from surgery, the nurses tried a different medication and it took away her nausea and headache.  Plus she started to walk the hallways which is good.  The really good news is that the tests came back and the abnormality was benign.

Thanks again and blessings to each of you,
Dal

Continue your prayers for Judy and Dal and a thanksgiving prayer that the tumor was non-cancerous.

Continue Your Prayers for J B Hardy

Virginia wrote us this week with an update on how J B is doing and he is improving but still needs someone with him at all times.

Being a caregiver is an all consuming task and a covenant group and our class want to provide relief for Virginia to spell her for awhile.

Don McNew has agreed to coordinate the needs and match the needs for those who have volunteered.  Several men have already volunteered but it would be helpful if more could help.

Contact Don via email donmcnew@att.net or phone him at 770 442-1627.
