Do unto others as you would have them do unto you — Luke 6:31

Allen Kennedy Continues Series

This week Allen Kennedy presents the second and last part of his series on Catholic Mysticism.  This relatively unknown subject is very interesting.

Last week Allen covered some of the background and history of mysticism as practiced in the Catholic Church.  This week’s lesson will explore some of his personal experiences as his “aunt” claimed the power of a mystic.

Be sure not to miss this Sunday’s lesson—be informed and inspired.

Ed. Note:  If you have a prayer request or an announcement to be included in the Friday email to the CUC members please forward it to me (gewaite@bellsouth.net) by the Thursday evening of the week.  Of course, it there is an urgent request, we can distribute it.

It is a Mystery to Most of Us

This Sunday CUC is again blessed with another interesting series—two weeks this time. Allen Kennedy will explore with us this week and next his series on Catholic Mysticism

We have always enjoyed Allen’s lessons when he has visited CUC in the past and  I look forward to understanding more about this part of our heritage.

CUC – Sunday February 5, 2012

…be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. — Ephesians 4:2

Scott Continues

Scott Dickson concludes the third of his series on Desert Fathers this week.   Over the last two weeks we have been introduced to the early fathers that shaped our Christian Heritage.

This week Scott continues with the lesson on How they felt like and how it gets in the way.  We are so blessed to have Scott share his considerable knowledge with us.

I really look forward to learning more and to being inspired.  (If you cannot be in class be sure to listen to the lesson each week online at cucrumc.info)

Ed. Note:  If you have a prayer request or an announcement to be included in the Friday email to the CUC members please forward it to me (gewaite@bellsouth.net) by the Thursday evening of the week.  Of course, it there is an urgent request, we can distribute it.

Scott Dickson returns to teach CUC this Sunday.  Scott has taught CUC several times in the past and we have always been informed and inspired by his delivery and insight into the background of our heritage.

Scott will be with us for this week and the next two as he presents a series on Desert Fathers.  I look forward in anticipation to Scott’s series.

Learn to Sing Like a Lark

This second Sunday in Epiphany, we are blessed to have Dr. Michael O’Neal joins us to deliver the lesson.

Michael is the Director of Worship Arts here at RUMC and is responsible for all aspects of the Music and Visual Arts.  His lesson will explore with us the part that music plays in our Worship of God.

I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. — John 8:12

Epiphany Sunday

January 6th is Epiphany Sunday when Christians celebrate the revelation of God the Son as a human being in Jesus Christ—in the visitation of the Biblical Magi to the Baby Jesus.

The CUC lesson this week will be given by Paul Beecham using the topic of  By a Different Road.

This weeks concludes the Advent series that we have enjoyed which was from Mike Slaughter’s bookChristmas is not Your Birthday.  I look forward to the capstone of this series of lessons.

Downsizing—A Good Thing?

This Sunday you may notice that the refreshment table may be a little less elaborate.  Veep Linda Boswell writes and wants your feedback:

For the month of January, we are experimenting with “down sizing” refreshments a little.  We’ll ask for your thoughts in early February.  Will appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,  Linda Boswell
