Winshape Retreat Center
We are three weeks from our retreat and the general information about the retreat was provided last week. Important information for this week is:
- Due to an unforeseen cancellation and our negotiations with Winshape, we do have rooms available. If you have not signed up and would like to attend please contact us immediately.
- If you are interested in the tour of Martha Berry’s home, Oak Hill and Museum near the campus let us know. Check the website at www.berry.edu/oakhill/. If there is sufficient advance interest we may be able to get a tour guide for the group. Tickets are $7.00. Let us know of your interest by Tuesday.
- We will be collecting checks for the remaining balance for the retreat this Sunday and on October 21 and 28. The amounts are:
- a. Couple in double room – $315
- b. Single in private room – $200
- c. Single shared room – $130

The CUC Retreat at WinShape Conference Center, October 31 – November 2, 2018 is rapidly approaching. We want to keep you informed as we move toward the date.
Arrival time is 3:00 -5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 31. We will gather in the meeting room at 5:30pm for a briefing before going to dinner at 6:00pm. The first session will begin at 7:45 pm. Our speakers and their sessions are set. Jeff Ross will be with us Wednesday evening to start the retreat. Tom Davis will lead the morning session on Thursday, then Jeff will lead the sessions Thursday evening and Friday morning ending with Communion.
Booth Western Art Museum
Wednesday, November 14th at 9:00 AM is planned for a CUC trip to the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville to see the Frederic Remington exhibit. Experience the biggest Remington exhibit ever in the South, with treasures from the Frederic Remington Art Museum and Beyond. We will tour the museum and have lunch. Details to follow and the sign up sheet will be passed on Sunday, October 14th for 28 folks. Contact Patsy Lanham for more information
CUC Christmas Party

Filling Crate for Venezuela
Venezuela’s economic collapse has resulted in medicine being unavailable or in extremely short supply along with severe food shortages that leave most people living on one meal a day. RUMC, through Venezuela Now! will send a crate of medicine and food to the Wesley Medical Center in Cabudare, Venezuela. These simple specific medications are not available to the average citizen and especially the poor. The specific food items are exactly the ingredients that go into a hearty soup.
The specific items are:
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
- Ibuprofen (Advil)
- Infant Tylenol and Advil
- Children’s and Adult’s multi-vitamins
- Powdered infant formula
- Canned chicken
- Dried rice
- Dried beans

I Hear America Singing
The Michael O’Neal Singers open their 30th Anniversary concert season with I Hear America Singing, this Sunday at 3 p.m at RUMC.
Drawing inspiration from American poet Walt Whitman, this program celebrates the vitality, variety, and optimism of America which is reflected through the creative endeavor of all its people. Including choral classics, folk songs, and spirituals, I Hear America Singing reminds us that patriotism at its core consists of both pride of country and a mutual respect for each other.

Fall Festival Help Needed
The Children’s Ministry is in desperate need of some more volunteers for the Fall Festival. They’re looking for some help passing out information/concessions, helping direct children at carnival games, etc.

Model Railroad Open House
Every fall many of the members of the Piedmont Division of the National Model Railroad Association open their model railroads to the public.
This year on Saturdays and Sundays in October and November seventy-three members will have open houses. There will be an open house at Charlie Mason’s model railroad this Sunday afternoon, October 14, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend. - Jim Boswell’s heart surgery was a success. Pray for his continued recovery. They are back in Georgia and Jim is doing well. Prayers have been answered!
- Jackie Hubbard – has had her 3rd right knee replacement. Please pray for this to be successful.
- Janet Scalzo as she recovers from knee replacement surgery
- Gale Earman and Diana Frei, former CUC members, need our prayers. Diana was diagnosed with lymphoma about three years ago. It has not gone well. She has had to have her spleen removed and part of her left lung. She has broken both hips and is wheel chair bound. She is also suffering from dementia. Gale is her sole caregiver and is understandably exhausted. They are receiving support from their church, but prayers, cards and notes would be uplifting.

- Pat (Mrs.) Cooney as she has chemo for multiple myeloma. Keep her and her husband Pat in your prayers.
- Pray for Mary Serafina and her daughter Pam Pruit as Pam continues her fight against liver cancer. Mary says they feel our CUC love and prayers wrapped around them.

- Pastor Andrew Brunson has been released by the Turkish courts. He has left Turkey and is expected to return to the US this Saturday (9-13-2018)!
- Bob Moore is back to CUC following surgery
- Jeannie and Jim Ehlers have welcomed a new grandson, Beau, their 8th grandchild

Student Ministry 101
Our speaker this Sunday is Wilson Barber, Associate Minister to Students at RUMC. His topic is “Student Ministry 101: Why a healthy Student Ministry is critical for a healthy Church”. Wilson has a passion for working with students and has been especially involved with mission trips. Wilson will help us have a better appreciation of our Student Ministry.

These will include a tour of Martha Berry’s mountain top home, a driving tour of the grounds and buildings of WinShape, a self guided tour of the Berry College campus, several hiking opportunities, bike riding, tennis, disc golf, bocce ball, corn hole, as well as board games in the meeting room.
One other opportunity for Thursday afternoon is a tour of Martha Berry’s home, Oak Hill and Museum near the campus. Tickets are $7.00. If we have enough interest we can get a tour guide for a group. Go on the web and look at www.berry.edu/oakhill/ . Please check this out and if you are interested we need to make reservations by October 14. Call us and let us know of your interest.

Filling Crate for Venezuela

RUMC, through Venezuela Now! will send a crate of medicine and food to God’s people in Venezuela! In total,
Venezuela Now has successfully shipped over 20 crates of food and medical supplies to the Wesley Medical Center in Cabudare, Venezuela. The medicines from the crate will be given free of charge to patients of the Medical Center and the food will be distributed to the more than 40 churches in the area operating community soup kitchens and used by the Seminary to provide meals to students while on campus for classes.
To send a full crate will require donations of over the counter medicines and food from the congregation. The reason for the specific medications is that these simple, basic items are not available to the average citizen and especially the poor. The specific food items are exactly the ingredients that go into a hearty soup that is prepared.

Carole will be joined by Fred Sawyers, James Casto, Jim Hettinger, Mike Shetler, “Sevenfold,” and the RUMC Praise Choir in a concert of favorite sacred music.

Pastor Andrew Brunson is still on house arrest. His next hearing is October 12th and he is hopeful that he will be released. Terry and Wanda Taylor’s son Kent is Andrew’s partner in ministry. Please pray for Andrew’s release.

She had a tumor removed from her neck/spine last week and it relieved her severe pain. She is one strong person. Mary says they feel our CUC love and prayers wrapped around them.

This twice-a-year activity is a delightful way to get to know your classmates The Fellowship Committee assigns 6 – 8 guests to “host homes.” The host then organizes the group by finding a convenient date and preparing the main course. Guests bring the side dishes. Easy peasy and lots of fun!

- Linda & Jim Boswell as Jim has open heart surgery to replace his tricuspid valve at Cleveland Clinic on Monday, September 24. . He will be in the hospital for about 10 days after surgery, and they will remain in Cleveland for a few more. They are tentatively scheduled to come home on October 6.

Latest news from Linda: Jim, Lisa, and I arrived in Cleveland last night (Wednesday Night). Lots of tests all day. In spare time, Jim got 6000 flood buckets and lids donated and delivery arranged. Will have more tests tomorrow, and enter the hospital on Saturday. All is well. Thanks For thoughts and prayers. - Pat (Mrs.) Cooney as she has chemo for multiple myeloma. Keep her and her husband Pat in your prayers.
- Jackie Hubbard – will have her 3rd right knee replacement on September 26th. Please pray for this to be successful.
- Marlene MacLeod has been suffering with a severe case of shingles since August 24. The shingles are subsiding now, but the pain remains constant. Pray for relief of pain.
- Bob Moore recovering from surger
- Johnie Wright’s mother, Wilma Diemer, fell Wednesday on her front porch and was having full hip replacement surgery Thursday afternoon in Cookeville, Tn. She is 89 years old.
- Received today from Sandy Martin: I received an urgent email just now from our daughter, Jennie. She has friends who have a 9 year old son, Clinton Goode, who had a serious bike accident Tuesday.
He is in ICU at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with extensive internal injuries to organs including his pancreas. They are attempting a stent to the pancreas tomorrow.
Clinton needs a miracle and I KNOW they happen. I am asking all you prayer warriors and anyone you may know to pray for this child. If you are in a prayer group, could you please add his name?

This twice-a-year activity is a delightful way to get to know your classmates The Fellowship Committee assigns 6 – 8 guests to “host homes.” The host then organizes the group by finding a convenient date and preparing the main course. Guests bring the side dishes. Easy peasy and lots of fun!

They will go up on Wednesday, September 19. He will have tests for two days, and enter the hospital on Saturday, September 22. He will be in the hospital for about 10 days after surgery, and they will remain in Cleveland for a few more. They are tentatively scheduled to come home on October 6. Linda says they feel very blessed to have this opportunity, to know they have your thoughts and prayers, and to have their family traveling with them

Calling All Seniors (age 60+)
Do you like to sing? For the Prime Time Singers, RUMC’s Senior Adult Choir under the direction of Tom Alterman, no experience or audition is necessary.
PTS rehearses on Wednesday mornings in the choir room beginning September 5 through May from 10:45 -12 noon for a fun-filled time of rehearsal and fellowship. The choir sings for the First Sunday Communion Services, Senior Adult Activities, and at venues in the community.
Homestretch Volunteers
CUC has been a big supporter of Homestretch since its very beginning. Our own Malone Dodson was an original founder of Homestretch 25 years ago when he saw the need in our community for housing for families who were homeless.
Currently CUC still has a number of active volunteers with Homestretch. Hugh and Sue Gardner work regularly in the office. Sandy Martin serves at the reception desk each Monday. Lynn Adcock serves on the Homestretch Board. Tom Knight and George Waite regularly serve on committees for fund-raising events. Ask any of these people if they know of how you might be of service in this organization

Homestretch Year End Report
As CUC has always been a big supporter of Homestretch since its very beginning it is with pleasure that we hear the statistics June to June of this year:
Of 15 families, 14 graduated. All are full-time employed and in permanent housing. Two of their kids are off to college, one an honor graduate with a full scholarship to Stanford University.
Why Could Red Bird Christian School Use 2nd Language Textbooks?
Recently Norma and David Hills took clothing, books etc. to Red Bird Missions including 2nd language textbooks.
UM Churches and volunteers with their money, labor, and materials renovated Red Bird’s two old dorms so a Residential Program could be offered. The 2 dorms house 24 students and each dorm has its own dorm parents.
Internationals attending the Residential Programs live in these dorms and concentrate on the skills of learning a new language: grammar, reading writing, vocabulary, listening and speaking. Their goals are to attend a college or university. That’s how the 2nd language textbooks are used.
To facilitate their spiritual growth, they participate in daily devotions, weekly chapel services, Sat. leadership training and 2 Bible Study courses during their high school career.

His Topic is “How Not To Read the Bible”
Retired Methodist Pastor, Rev. Dr. James McCormick is the author of five books including: Welcome Home, Tell It Like It Can Be, Marriage Is For Adults, Does It Look and Sound Like Jesus? and The Gospel Goes to Broadway. He is a contributor to the Upper Room Disciplines and 1992 Abingdon Preaching Annual and 1993 Abingdon Preaching Annual. McCormick formerly served as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Theology at Claremont and Fuller Theological Seminary.
Jim is one of our CUC all time favorite teachers. We look forward to his teaching us again this Sunday.

Sunday’s CUC class speaker this week is Sidney Moore. He last taught us in November 2016, and his talk was very inspiring. You will recall that he is Paul Beecham’s associate in prisoner care. Sidney’s topic is “Love–The One True Foundation”.

RUMC NAME BADGES
While we all have “CUC Name Tags”, the church is encouraging us to get the RUMC name badges and wear them when we are on the campus.
Patty Hampton, who works for Nancy Lane, is responsible for ordering the badges and will be placing an order soon.
We will pass a sign up sheet this Sunday for those who don’t already have a badge and want one. They sure help when you recognize someone but can’t remember their name. They also help in talking to those you don’t know.

Red Bird Missions
CUC Helps Red Bird Missions by collecting Labels for Education and recently Norma & Dave Hills took a carload of books and clothing from the Garage Sale.
Here are some RED BIRD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FACTS:
- The first year (1922) two teachers had 2 senior high and 95 elementary students. This year there are 78 in elementary and preschool, 27 in middle school, and 89 in high school.
- In 1988 Red Bird Christian School separated from the public system to focus on spiritual development of students and faculty by emphasizing Christianity and the Bible.
- Their motto is “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.”
- The school was why Red Bird Mission began.

Keith Lawder, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Georgia United Methodist Foundation, and Kim Brammer who has been our Executive Director of the RUMC Foundation. - Jim Boswell will be going to the Cleveland Clinic on Monday for an evaluation and next steps for his heart valve issue. Grandson, Andrew Cox, will be traveling with them to “take care of the old folks”. They will be back on Wednesday. Pray for a safe trip with encouraging results. Also the Boswell’s granddaughter, Courtney Cox, is safely back in Atlanta after 2 months of mission work in Cambodia and Thailand. She’s good, but had to leave one young man in a Bangkok hospital with possible encephalitis or meningitis. His parents are with him, but it is very serious. Please include him in prayers.
- Malone Dodson whose surgery to correct hearing had to be postponed due to heart problems
- Jeannie Ehlers who is off her feet for a few weeks following foot surgery
- Sharon Erdman for good results from biopsy
- Johnny Johnson for good recovery after having hernia surgery this past week

Looking Deeper at the Parables
Scott Dickson returns to CUC this Sunday for the second part of his most interesting lesson “Looking Deeper at the Parables”. He is looking at the parables in a different way, making us think about where and when Jesus taught them and who His listeners were.
Two books about the parables that Scott Dickson recommended were Short Stories by
Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine and The Parables of Jesus by Jim Fleming.

MUST Ministries
Thanks again to those who donated financial assistance and those who assisted with the sandwich making for MUST and especially to those who served on the committee. Over the last 2 years CUC has provided lunches using over 5,000 slices of cheese, 15,000 slices of ham, 15,000 slices of bread and over 200 man-hours.
Job Networking Garage Sale Extravaganza Next Week!
You may drop off items for the Garage Sale on Sunday with people waiting at the “Scout Hut” starting at 8:30 am and again between and after services. Volunteers will be able to help you unload your car. However, if possible, wait and donate on Monday, July 30 or Tuesday, May 31.
Jan Ligon reminds us that the antiques that our kids don’t want would be of great value for the garage sale. Gale Davis reminds us that those good clothes that we hardly ever wear will be great for our boutique. We are not taking men’s clothes or shoes this year. We want women’s clothes on HANGERS please.

Adcock Garage Sale
There is an additional garage sale going on this Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00 at the home of Lynn and Jim Adcock, 1455 Woodcrest Drive, Roswell, to assist them in clearing out their home of 45 years, before everything else is moved to the RUMC garage sale.
They have many beautiful things they have accumulated over the years that just won’t fit in their new apartment at Huntcliff Summit. Come and encourage others to came and you may find some treasures. Tools, glassware, appliances, decorative items, beautiful oriental rugs, gifts, linens, toys, games, books, and some very nice women’s clothes sizes 12-16 and shoes size 8, etc., etc.

- Pastor Andrew Brunson was released Wednesday after being held in prison for almost two years. He is now under house arrest at his home in Izmir, Turkey, while the charges remain the same.A Turkish state news agency said the court banned him from leaving the country. He will not be able to leave his house except for an interview or a hearing in court. Turkish authorities will keep his passport, and he must wear an electronic ankle bracelet. We hope this is a first step in completely freeing Pastor Andrew. His next court date is in October. (Terry and Wanda Taylor’s son Kent is Andrew’s partner in ministry in Turkey.)
(News reports this Thursday morning are that he will soon return to the United States!)

Must Ministries Lunch Program
A big thank you to our class for the steady contributions of Apples for Must Ministries each week! Keep up the good work!
Continuing every Sunday through the months of June and July please bring bags of apples as you are able and they will be placed with the lunch crews for distribution with the bag lunches.
Our CUC class has made more than 4,000 lunches in the past 2 years and we plan to make still more. The next CUC lunch-making day is next Tuesday, July 17 at 9:00.
Drivers and riders are still needed for delivering the MUST lunches. If you are interested in helping with this, contact Sandy Griffin.
Job Networking Fundraisers
Drop Off Sundays for the RUMC Job Networking Garage Sale began last Sunday, July 8. Charis Gallery
Last chance to see it! The “Celebration” Exhibit in the Charis Gallery outside the Sanctuary runs through July 16th. Jan Buckley has received the People’s Choice Award for her painting “Grandma Bathing Muffy”. Patricia Mashburn also has paintings in the exhibit.
Acting Up – “Annie”

Apples to CUC for MUST lunches!
Box Tops should be clipped when you see them on boxes, cans, bags you have brought home from stores. You can find a current list of products that feature Box Tops for Education by searching for Box Tops for Education on your computers.
Quite a variety of brands helps schools this way. Many schools collect them. All these items contributed from our class are mailed to Red Bird Missionary Conference in Kentucky to help the Christian school there.
Over the years these Box Tops sent from churches and individuals across the USA have made a positive difference in the school’s ability to provide “extras” such as hall lockers, prizes for perfect attendance, fuel for vans, field trips. These benefits are not part of the school’s budget.
Red Bird Missionary Conference has an excellent computer site. Please refer to it for information about this Methodist center in rural Appalachia.

- Pastor Andrew Brunson, wrongly imprisoned in Turkey, his wife and family, and for Terry and Wanda Taylor’s son Kent who is Andrew’s partner in ministry in Turkey.
- UPDATE ON PASTOR ANDREW BRUNSON – June 25, 2018 President Trump made his boldest statement last weekend in defense of imprisoned Pastor Brunson assuring him that he is not forgotten, and we are working on his release. Also, the U.S. Senate is poised to approve legislation that would inflict a significant penalty on Turkey by denying their purchase of our F-35 jets should they not release Pastor Brunson. In addition, the European Parliamentarians are demanding Turkey release the innocent pastor. Meanwhile, Pastor Brunson is in prison awaiting the continuation of his trial this coming week on July 18.

The CUC offering on Sunday amounted to $103.
The love offerings collected during (and after) the potluck supper totaled $730. These funds will be distributed to the various charities/missions, as directed by the donors.
CUC CLASS OFFICERS FOR 2018-19
It’s time to be thinking about class officers for 2018-19 with responsibilities beginning in August.
- Sara Beecham, current Vice President, will move into the president position and George Martin will be next year’s vice president.
- Roger Davis and Martha Jane Mason will be in charge of arranging speakers each Sunday, but many other jobs will likely be available.
Current committees have all done a great job and keeping some experienced persons on their current assignments. However, it is equally important to get new people involved.
A nominating committee is working on this in the next few weeks. Chairman and co-chairman for the next year’s CUC retreat are especially needed.

Must Ministries Lunch Program
A big thank you to our class for the steady contributions of Apples for Must Ministries each week! Keep up the good work!
- Continuing every Sunday through the months of June and July please bring bags of apples as you are able and they will be placed with the lunch crews for distribution with the bag lunches.
- Our CUC class has made more than 4,000 lunches in the past 2 years and we plan to make still more. The next CUC lunch-making day is Tuesday, July 17 at 9:00.
- Drivers and riders are still needed for delivering the MUST lunches. If you are interested in helping with this, contact Sandy Griffin.

Job Networking Fundraisers
Consider donating homemade baked good and/or purchasing baked goods at the Job Networking fundraising Bake Sale, kicking off Garage Sale week, Sunday, July 29, at the Scout Hut. Drop-off is June 28th at noon. Questions? Contact Claudia Phelps.
Also start planning to volunteer at almost any time during the following week for the huge Garage Sale Extravaganza August 2- 4th. CUC always has a large group of volunteers working that whole week.
Red Bird Mission School
Betty and Larry Hunt recently made a trip to Red Bird mission school in Kentucky to see for themselves what this mission that CUC collects the box tops and labels for is all about. This is what they found:
Children born in southeastern Kentucky, a poor Appalachian region, are fortunate if they have the opportunity for an education that gives them hope for a bright future. Red Bird Mission School, K-12, provides an experience of high quality for its students. 97% of high school graduates go on to college or further training.
This Methodist private Christian school relies on churches throughout the USA and individuals to meet its budget. CUC members are asked to cut out Box Tops for
Education printed on various supermarket items and bring them to class. What is then mailed to Red Bird Mission is our small way of helping those needy young people.
Charis Gallery Award
Jan Buckley has received the People’s Choice Award for her painting “Grandma Bathing Muffy” in the Celebration exhibit in the Charis Gallery outside the Sanctuary. The exhibit runs through July 16th.
Acting Up – “Annie”

- UPDATE ON PASTOR ANDREW BRUNSON – June 25, 2018 President Trump made his boldest statement last weekend in defense of imprisoned Pastor Brunson assuring him that he is not forgotten, and we are working on his release. Also, the U.S. Senate is poised to approve legislation that would inflict a significant penalty on Turkey by denying their purchase of our F-35 jets should they not release Pastor Brunson. In addition, the European Parliamentarians are demanding Turkey release the innocent pastor. Meanwhile, Pastor Brunson is in prison awaiting the continuation of his trial on July 18.

Four Principles for Daily Living
This Sunday our own Roger Davis will be leading our class with a lesson titled: “Four Principles for Daily Living” based on selected verses from Romans 8.
CUC has been very supportive of Luke Wagner, grandson of Gale & Roger. Luke has periodically given the class an update on his status and future plans. Luke will do that for us this week.

Reminder this Sunday
This Sunday, July 1, there is one service at 11 am in the sanctuary and 11 am in the chapel and hot dogs and ice cream will be served on the commons at noon.
CUC Patriotic Potluck Picnic
Thanks to the CUC Social Committee for our great Patriotic Potluck Picnic last Wednesday. Over 75 CUC’ers enjoyed the fun event with good food, good fellowship, and great entertainment by the Treble Makers.
CUC CLASS OFFICERS FOR 2018-19
It’s time to be thinking about class officers for 2018-19 with responsibilities beginning in August. Sara Beecham, current Vice President, will move into the President position but many other jobs will likely be available.
Current committees have all done a great job and keeping some experienced persons on their current assignments is advisable. However, it is equally important to get new people involved. A nominating committee is working on this in the next few weeks.

Must Ministries Lunch Program

Last year we made 2400 lunches and plan to do that and maybe more this year. The CUC MUST Lunch Committee consists of Sandy and Bill Griffin, Martha Jane Mason, Jeff and Lesleigh Coelho, Jim Boswell, Claudia Phelps.
2018 CUC RETREAT
We are delighted to report that we have 46 rooms reserved and 87 attendees signed up to attend our annual retreat – October 31-November 2 at Winshape Retreat Center.
A deposit of $150 is required by July 8 to hold the room. Please make checks to “CUC Class” and put “Retreat” on the memo line.
Tom Davis and Jeff Ross will be leading our retreat. Tom will be with us for the session on Thursday morning. Jeff will be with us for the entire retreat. Take an opportunity to thank both of them for participating.

Murphy Harpst Update
Nine CUC members went to Murphy Harpst on Saturday, February 10th to put on a well-received February birthday party for the residents there.
Now the rest of us can keep up our support of Murphy Harpst by remembering to always use our Murphy Harpst tags when we shop at Publix. Murphy Harpst receives about $3000 from Publix each month as a result of people using those tags.

Homestretch Peachtree Tea
The 11th annual Peachtree Tea to benefit Homestretch will be held February 27, 11:00 – 1:30 at the Country Club of the South with a champagne reception, luncheon and auction. CUC always has a nice turnout to this event and Lynn Adcock would like to get a full table or more together from our class.
So far at least 10 CUC members are planning to attend. Contact Lynn or sign up on the sheet being passed on Sunday if you are interested in supporting Homestretch and attending. Tickets are $80.
RUMC GIC Coming Up
The theme of this year’s GIC, March 1-4, is Life on Mission: Hope in the Face of Injustice, with an emphasis on human trafficking. Plan to attend at least some of the sessions. CUC will be having one of the missionaries as our speaker that Sunday or members may choose to attend the “Taking Hope to the Streets” session.
Tortured for Christ Needs Your Help!
The Griffins, Davis’ and Petersons have ordered tickets to see the movie Tortured For Christ.
It is based on the book of the same name written by Richard Wurmbrand. He was a minister in Romania. After the communists took control he was arrested. He served 14 years in prison because he refused to renounce his faith. The movie is being shown March 5 at the GTC Merchants Walk Stadium theater at 7:30. Tickets are $12.50.

- Linda Mooney’s husband Bob – that his back surgery this past Wednesday is successful
- Mary Serafina asks that we continue to pray for her daughter Pam Pruit as she battles cancer. Pam feels your prayers and feels God’s hand on her life.
- Nancy Van Horn’s brother, Bert Fridlin, passed away Friday morning. She requests prayers for the family. Bert had lymphoma for 20 years so he greatly beat the odds. (Bert was a fraternity brother of Shaw Skilling)
- Nancy Wistrand requests prayers for Maddy Wilford and her family. Maddie was shot 3 times in the school shooting in FL. She is the grand daughter of Nancy’s cousin Jim. She has undergone at least 2 surgeries. Her mother, Missy Wilford, is from Marietta.

Sunday, December 24, 2017 Merry Christmas!
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. When Mary his mother was engaged to Joseph, before they were married, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband was a righteous man. Because he didn’t want to humiliate her, he decided to call off their engagement quietly.

WHOSE CHILD lS THIS?
The speaker this Sunday is our own Myra Belote continuing the Adam Hamilton book: “Faithful, Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph”. She is reviewing Chapter 2 –“Whose Child is This?”, based on this week’s scripture. This is the lesson we missed on December 10th because of the snow. Although Advent traditionally ends on December 24, CUC will continue the Advent lessons through the beginning of January.
