Be sure that you register your attendance – either Zooming or on-site participation online using your personal cell phone or tablet. Class members will initially go online to:

http://www.rumc.com/connect-card to register within Ministry Platform. After that, each time you sign-on you will just need to select the event that you are attending to register. When you choose the time that your class normally meets, the system will then automatically connect your attendance to the CUC class.

CUC Retreat for Fall of 2021?

Please remember to email, call, or text Gene Osborn with your Fall Retreat wishes before February 28, and let him know whether or not you would attend, so plans can be made.

Ash Wednesday

This coming Wednesday, February 17, there will be a drive-in service from 10:30 AM to 12:30 and 4:00 to 6:00 PM. You may attend at any time during the two time slots offered: This experience will take place outdoors, just outside the front Chapel entrance near the front lawn on Mimosa Blvd.

Park outside the Chapel and walk up to one of the Lenten stations. A Pastor will be at each station to guide you through a time of prayer, sharing of Scripture, and the imposition of ashes. You will be invited to administer the ashes on yourself due to our current COVID protocols.

HOPE CHEST

“Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God”, Psalm 42: v. 5b

Only when a life has no hope does it become not worth living. To hope is not merely to want something; that is desire or wishful thinking. Desire must be coupled with some degree of expectation to produce hope.Therein lies the great problem. We may wish for a million dollars, relief from our illness, world peace, or a way to lose weight while stuffing ourselves with jelly filled doughnuts. Our hopes, however, must be firmly grounded, or they will inevitably lead us to disappointment, shame, and disaster. In other words, false hopes ruin us.

One of the most basic issues of our lives, therefore, becomes discovering or locating that in which we can place our hope. Where can we find sure promises for a future that we can count on? Where can we place our hope with realistic exceptions that we can live securely even though some of the promises we rely on are yet to be delivered? In God. In God and God alone lies our hope.

God and his sustaining power are the course of the only meaningful hope possible in our lives.

Zuppke’s philosophical remarks were called Zuppkeisms. The best known Zuppkeisms, including the one above are: the greatest athlete is one who can carry a nimble brain to the place of action; moral courage is the result of respect from fellow men; a good back should keep his feet at all times and never lose his head; men do their best if they know they are being observed; alumni are loyal if a coach wins all his games; and advice to freshmen: don’t drink the liniment.

My Neighbors Pantry

Help us make sure we have enough food for everyone! For just $20, you can provide two bags of groceries to a family who needs them. Fresh chicken, beef, produce, cheese, milk, tortillas and more . We need black beans, feminine hygiene products and laundry detergent! You can drop these items off on Mondays 12-2:00 PM. Just drive to the back of the B Building at RUMC, honk your horn, and a masked volunteer will get them from your car.

CUC still has funds in its treasury to reimburse class members for their purchases for items for the My Neighbors Pantry program. They can mail or email Charlie Mason a copy of their receipts and he will reimburse them for their purchases.

• Please pray also for Craig Bruner, a very dear friend to Bill and Sandy Griffin, who is dying due to prostate cancer, and for his wife Marene. He has fought the good fight for many years, but it has now spread through his body.
