CUC Fall Retreat
The theme of our CUC retreat, led by Dr. Joe McKechnie will be “Under Construction”. About 53 of our CUC members plan to relax and commune with God and nature at the Lodge in the Amicalola Falls State Park, this coming week October 8-10, in the splendid north GA Mountains.
Pray for this to be a spiritually uplifting time for all who participate. For those who attend, payment of $78 each for extra retreat expenses is now due. Make checks payable to CUC class with “CUC retreat” in the memo line. If you have any questions contact George Waite or Tom Knight.

Sandy Griffin and Kris Taylor have organized our large class into groups by geographical locations so that if someone needs a helping hand, transportation, or whatever, we will be aware of who lives near us who can come assist when and if help of some sort is needed. The annual CUC Christmas Party will be Tuesday, December 3, 6-10 PM at the Metropolitan Club. This is the biggest and best CUC party of the year.
Be sure you have marked your calendars! The cost will be $40 per person and the reservations will need to be in by November 17th. The sign-up sheet will be passed this Sunday.

This is the title of the book written by Todd and Liz Chancey, written under the pen names of Christopher and Hilda Talley.
They will be at RUMC for a book signing/small talk on 10/9, That is this coming Wednesday, 4-7 in the Trinity Cafe. Many of us knew Todd and Liz when they were here at RUMC. Rev. Todd Chancey is now the Senior Pastor at First United Methodist of ALCOA.
22nd Annual Malone Dodson Golf Tournament
This event at the Woodmont Golf Club, in Canton funds the operations of the RUMC Foundation, Inc. where investment earnings distribute over $150,000 a year to phenomenal causes! So pray for good participation and good weather this Monday, October 7. Thanks for all who are participating in various ways.
Gibbs Gardens Senior Trip
Jeff Ross is setting up a trip for the Seniors for Friday Oct. 25th to Gibbs Garden. The plan is to meet at the church at 9 am and return by 3 pm.

- Dick Anthony – Still hospitalized at Northside Hospital Cumming for recovery from recent complications from chemotherapy. He would like to see anyone that wants to come. Friendly faces might help him to get back to himself.
- Tom Cantrell – From Linda: We met with the Urologist on Thursday and it was confirmed that Tom has bladder cancer. There are two stages with bladder cancer – clinical and pathological. We are in the clinical stage and have a diagnosis of Stage 1. We are in the process of seeing specialists to determine what our next steps are and which treatment option we will choose. We are thankful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support for Tom. We believe in the power of prayer and we ask for your continued prayers for our Heavenly Father to guide our steps as we begin this journey to remove the cancer and have perfect healing.
- Barbara Davis – hospitalized twice recently with blood clots in her lungs
- Johnny Johnson and Donna as they determine course of therapy for Johnny’s pancreatic cancer and return to their old home in Roswell
- George Martin as he recovers from major surgery and determines course of treatment for cancer
- Betty Smith for good recovery following back surgery as she recuperates. From Betty: Thanks to all the members of the class for the lovely cards, gifts, and special wishes. I don’t know how I could’ve made it through this past few weeks without all of you sending your best wishes and prayers. I am now at daughter Elizabeth’s house for a week or so and then hopefully will be able to get back to home which is also new. Every day is a new adventure.

Is it OK for Christians to Have Doubts?
Mark Goodwin has the lesson for CUC this Sunday. The title of the lesson — “Is it OK for Christians to Have Doubts?”. We have really enjoyed and gotten a lot out of his previous lessons which are inspirational and always give us food for thought.

God in the Midst of Thorns

Christopher and Hilda Talley were living what they thought was the American dream. They had two beautiful and healthy daughters, a comfortable home, cars, clothes, food on the table, a wonderful faith community, and two terrific jobs they loved. They played at life just as hard as they worked for their lifestyle, traveling in the United States and to foreign lands as often as possible.
But in 1999, that all came crashing down. Hilda went from a happy and healthy person to someone who struggles for every breath she takes, after an inadequately trained pesticide tech came into her office. Two minutes after he left, she was fighting for her life. The chemical permanently damaged her lungs and vocal cords and led to two debilitating diseases: reactive airways dysfunction syndrome and vocal cord dysfunction. Their family life changed instantly.
In God in the Midst of Thorns, Christopher and Hilda share their story, a story intertwined with the testament of God’s love and the power of Christian community, as they began their journey of learning to live a new normal. The Talleys discuss how, in their struggle for understanding, they both found a new and deeper relationship with God.

Gibbs Gardens Senior Trip
Jeff Ross is setting up a trip for the Seniors for Friday Oct. 25th to Gibbs Garden. The plan is to meet at the church at 9am and return by 3pm.
- George Martin was out of surgery as of 7PM Thursday evening. It was a very big surgery and lasted nearly 4 hours. He’s in ICU for 24-48 hrs. Now missing his right colon but soldiering on without it! Prior to surgery his heart rate was so low that the anesthesiologist was very reluctant to approve the surgery but George was very insistent and got thru it ok. He will be in the hospital for 7-10 days and recuperation will likely take a bit longer due to his age. Thank you so very much for your prayers, your concern and your friendship. We are so blessed to have our CUC friends and we are both eager to get back! Sandy

- Betty Smith for good recovery following surgery for a lumbar decompression and fusion. She is in rehab at Manor Care on Johnson Ferry Road.
- Johnny Johnson and Donna, who recently moved, as Johnny has been found to have pancreatic cancer and will be determining his course of therapy.
- Maureen and Gene Osborne and their daughter Michelle who is recovering well. She will go home (maybe as soon as Sunday or Monday). Michelle is very rare patient to have had this type of event happen with absolutely no side effects so far and no further required therapy. She’s apparently healing very quickly other than some headaches expected for several weeks until brain completely heals. Prayers definitely work! Please thank everyone at CUC-the outpouring of cards, emails, texts has been quite overwhelming! God Bless, Gene & Maureen.

RUMC Sunday Evening Outreach
RUMC’s new bi-monthly ministry outreach of a Sunday evening service at Vickery Rose Adult Community, the retirement community at 295 E. Crossville Road, will continue on September 22nd. There is the hope that the service could be a mission outpost for the church, but also a fun and inspirational service option for RUMC members who would like to experience Sunday Evening worship. Bonnie White is the pianist and Jeff Ross is the preacher for the “Vespers” type service held in the theater room at Vickery Rose.

Hurricane Disaster Relief
RUMC is sending about one team a month to Panama City FL area. A gift for that goes into regular RUMC donations.
Information from Linda Boswell:
- UMCOR donations can go to RUMC but should be designated on the memo line as to whether it is donated to general use or specifically for the Bahamas.
- Red Cross donations can be done on-line by credit card to the US Red Cross or to the Bahama Islands Red Cross.

I cleared all of my doctor’s appointments and I’m now ready for the surgery. It will be September 17 at St. Joseph’s Hospital for a lumbar decompression and fusion, It doesn’t sound like fun but I think the end results will be worth it. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

CUC Fall Retreat – October 8-10
About 55 of our CUC members plan to relax and commune with God and nature at the CUC Fall Retreat at the Amicalola Falls Lodge in the Amicalola Falls State Park in the splendid north GA Mountains. We have 40 rooms reserved. Book now! The reserved rooms will be released September 6th. Reserve your room for the nights of October 8 and 9th by calling 800 573-9656 and indicating that you are attending the RUMC/CUC retreat. The room rate is $154.10 which includes Lodge Service Fee and state and local taxes.
We will have one common meal together on Wednesday evening. The other meals will be on your own. There is the excellent Maple Restaurant on site and nearby Dahlonega has many fine restaurants. Each person attending will be asked to contribute $75 each to common expenses (common meal, conference room with coffee service, and the speaker’s room and meals). Make your room reservation by September 6th to obtain the CUC rates.
Our leader will be Dr. Joe McKechnie, associate minister here at Roswell. The subject matter is planned to be be spiritual but light. Our first session will begin Tuesday evening October 8th and will conclude on Thursday morning October 10th. Wednesday afternoon will be free to enjoy all the attractions the area, the park, and the lodge have to offer.

Plan to Attend Worship!
We have had remarkably good turnouts of around 90+ attendees at our CUC class each Sunday. A number of CUC members leave early to usher, greet, participate in Altar Guild activities, or sing in the choir. Others after class have a brief gathering for refreshments and conversation and then move on to the 11:00 church worship service.
A number of others do not move on to worship. Those folks who don’t get to church are missing out on a wonderful worship experience. The amazing choir, the spectacular organ, the congregational singing, the pastor’s sermon, and joining with other members of the RUMC congregation in the worship of God are all worth being in attendance. If you don’t already go to worship regularly, try to start making it a habit. You’ll be glad you did!
CUC Class is Special!
The North Georgia Conference of the UMC issues a Statistical Report annually. For the full report go to www.ngumc.org – Resources – Documents & Forms – Statistical Tables – then choose a year.
Dave Roberts has shared some interesting statistics from this report.
One of the columns in the 2018 report is entitled “Total Professing Members at Close of Year” and of those 821 churches listed the CUC Class with 170 members is larger than 467 of the smaller churches – with 354 larger than our class. Of the largest reported memberships RUMC was in 4th position with 7561 total members at the close of 2018. Mt. Bethel was the largest, with Ben Hill second and Peachtree Road third.
Murphy Harpst and Red Bird Mission Schools
Each person in our CUC Class knows the value of a good education. We wanted it for ourselves, then for our children and grandchildren. Acquiring knowledge prepares a young person for whatever comes in the future. Two schools CUC knows about are Murphy-Harpst Campus School in Georgia and Red Bird Mission School in Kentucky. Both are part of Methodist institutions that minister to students who depend on help not available from normal home situations.
Thank you, CUC members, for your interest in these students, first for setting up an account at Publix, which supports Murphy-Harpst by automatically crediting the school with a percentage of your purchase. Every week located on a table manned by the CUC Membership Committee is a sheet of information about how to sign up for this benefit, if you have not done so already. The information you provide is secure.
Thank you also for faithfully clipping Box Tops for Education appearing on various market products. Many mailing envelopes full of “clippies” have been sent to Red Bird School located in an extremely poor part of Appalachia. Now General Mills is switching to a digital system requiring the shopper to scan the register receipt. Eligible items are recognized, and the school automatically receives credit. To sign up for the new plan, a customer must submit personal information which would be known to many stores other than Publix. How we can help this Kentucky school in a practical way is yet to be decided. If you have any questions contact Betty Hunt.

Seniors Enriched Living (SEL): Tue/Thu, September 17 – November 7 in the Dodson Youth Center. Also, continue to pray for Laverne Lamb as she provides care for Dick and manages the many appointments that are necessary throughout each week. Job Networking
Bob Schnackenburg thanked the many CUC members for your continued support of RUMC’s Job Networking program every other Monday night. This past Monday was a big Job Fair which helped many job seekers find good employment opportunities.
CUC Fall Retreat – October 8-10
About 57 of our CUC members plan to relax and commune with God and nature at the CUC Fall Retreat at the Amicalola Falls Lodge in the Amicalola Falls State Park in the splendid north GA Mountains.
We have 40 rooms reserved. Book now! Reserve your room for the nights of October 8 and 9th by calling 800 573-9656 and indicating that you are attending the RUMC/CUC retreat. The room rate is $154.10 which includes Lodge Service Fee and state and local taxes.
We will have one common meal together on Wednesday evening. The other meals will be on your own. There is the excellent Maple Restaurant on site and nearby Dahlonega has many fine restaurants. Each person attending will be asked to contribute $75 each to common expenses (common meal, conference room with coffee service, and the speaker’s room and meals). Make your room reservation by September 6th to obtain the CUC rates.
Our leader will be Dr. Joe McKechnie, associate minister here at Roswell. Our first session will begin Tuesday evening October 8th and will conclude on Thursday morning October 10th. Wednesday afternoon, will be free to enjoy all the attractions the area, the park, and the lodge have to offer.

RUMC Sunday Evening Outreach
Come and help in RUMC’s new bi-monthly ministry outreach to Vickery Rose Adult Community. Vickery Rose is a retirement community located at 295 E. Crossville Road. We have started a Sunday evening service there. Bonnie White is the pianist and Jeff Ross is the preacher.
The service is a “Vespers” type service. Bonnie and Jeff are hoping that the service could be a mission outpost for the church, but also a fun and inspirational service option for RUMC members who would like to experience Sunday Evening worship. The service is held in the Theater Room at Vickery Rose where the seating is comfortable and the acoustics are outstanding. The next Sunday Service will be on this Sunday, August 18.
Pull Tabs For Ronald McDonald Houses
Nancy and Johnie Wright recently took our CUC pull tabs collection (12 pounds worth!) to an Atlanta Ronald McDonald House. A thank you letter from an ARMH Charities volunteer notes that since 1998 the local pop top recycling program has raised over $148,000 for the two Atlanta houses which house nearly 2000 families of ill and injured children each year in order to keep families together when they need it the most. Keep collecting CUC!

The RUMC Coffeehouse
The newly-opened RUMC Coffee House, a collaboration between Kennesaw’s Independent Grounds Cafe and RUMC, has opened on Mimosa Boulevard. It is the red brick house two doors up from the church in the building which formerly housed SEL.
Consider stopping in for a cup of coffee sometime when you happen to be at the church! Or plan to use one of the rooms for a covenant group or small meeting while enjoying a cup of coffee. It is open Monday – Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The coffeehouse menu consists of a variety of coffee and espresso drinks and grab-and-go pastries. Light lunch fare is planned for the future. The shop offers seating inside and outside on the porch and at tables throughout the grounds.
The coffee shop primarily employs people in the community living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The idea of it is to showcase what inclusive employment opportunities look like for local businesses that employ adults with special needs. For many of the employees, this is their first job opportunity. It provides them an opportunity to grow in confidence and develop their skills that they can then take anywhere. Patriotic Picnic Potluck
CUC is having a Patriotic Picnic Potluck at the DOD on Wednesday, June 26, at 5:30 pm. Barbecue and tea provided. Entertainment too ! By the “Treble Makers”! (No Charge – there will be a love offering for mission).
We had a large response that signed up this past Sunday. We will pass a signup sheet again this coming Sunday. Those that still need to sign up please bring hors d’oeuvre. We so far have signed up lots of salads, sides, and desserts. Questions? Ask Claudia Phelps.
MUST Summer Lunches
Donations are still being accepted for the summer lunch program. Checks may be placed in the CUC offering basket or given to Charlie Mason.
Members wishing to make donations to the summer lunch program should make out their checks to CUC and include “MUST summer lunches” on the line for notes. These checks can be placed in the collection basket any Sunday. Donations are especially needed as now by law the food must come from a health certified facility and we will not be making them.
We will still be purchasing drinks, chips, cookies, and apples.
On this coming Wednesday, June 12th , CUC will be working in the Dod filling 1,000 bags with those potato chips, juice, cookies and maybe apples.
Volunteer help is also needed other times for volunteers to pack and load lunches or to drive or ride on a delivery route, to get all those lunches delivered each day. Visit rumc.com/must to sign up.
Patriotic Concerts
The Thirty-Eighth Annual Roswell Patriotic Celebration Concerts are Friday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 30, at 3 p.m. Complimentary tickets will be available in the Main Office, the Worship Arts office, online at itickets.com or you may get your tickets from Sarah Beecham at CUC class on Sunday morning.

Vacation Bible School Help Requests
CUC member, Nancy Spence, who was RUMC’s Children’s Ministry director for more than 20 years, emphasized the importance of the time spent at Vacation Bible School in the Christian development of our children. RUMC expects more than 380 children will be attending Vacation Bible School this summer. Help is needed. Snacks for volunteers would be appreciated. They can be dropped off on next Sunday June 16th in the Trinity Café.
The VBS mission emphasis will be “Venezuela Now!” You can help fill another crate for Venezuela by bringing in some of the items listed. The items needed are very specific: acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), infant Tylenol and Advil, children’s and adult’s multi-vitamins, powdered infant formula, canned chicken, dried rice, and dried beans.

Thanks to our CUC Fellowship Committee especially Mike and Garlinn Story and Bill and Patsy Lanham for the planning and putting on the Mardi Gras Party this past Thursday evening. It was really a GREAT party!
Get Ready for the Fun of Small Group Dinners!
Your Fellowship Committee is preparing for our springtime round of small group dinners. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know your CUC classmates at a more intimate gathering. We encourage all, but especially our newest members, to take advantage of dining at a classmate’s home with 6 or 8 other CUC’ers. Here are the details:
- Sign-ups will be taken until March 24th. A clip board will be passed in class or you can let a committee member know by email that you would like to join in. Please Contact: Kris Taylor or Mary Serafina.
- Simply add your name(s) and mark the column “Host” if you would like to hold the dinner in your home.
- The host provides the main course and wine if desired. Each guest will bring a portion of the meal. Easy peasy!
- The committee will start matching up guests and hosts at the end of March. Dinners will be held throughout the spring (April, May, June) as each group selects a date convenient to all.

CPR Class
A CPR & AID class for CUC members will be taught on this Sunday, March 3rd, at 12:30 PM, in the A Building in rooms 177 & 178 which are near the elevator. It will be taught by Teresa Dean who is a certified instructor and a member of RUMC.
This is for anyone who wants to be newly certified or recertified. The cost is $15.00 per person. We suggest you bring a snack or light lunch. The class should last approx. 1 1/2 hrs. Questions? Please contact Sharon Erdman.

A New Look At Christian Ethics

CUC Mardi Gras Party
The CUC Mardi Gras party, set for Thursday, February 28th, is proceeding well. We already have 59 members signed up for the dinner//potluck+/party!! We have room for 80 guests for the dinner, at the Bradshaw Farms Clubhouse, and are looking forward to more folks signing up.
We are targeting to have guests signed up by Sunday, Feb. 17th, so we know how many people to plan for at the dinner. It will be a fun evening!! $7.50/person covers the clubhouse rental, ingredients for the main entrees and two King Cakes.
The dinner party will run from 6:30 PM to about 9:30 PM. See you there! Contact Patsy Lanham if you do not get to sign up in class.
Murphy Harpst Mission Outreach
CUC is planning for our annual February birthday party at Murphy Harpst in Cedartown on Saturday, February 16. Let Betty Hunt know if you would go on that date to help with the party and/or to see what Murphy Harpst is all about.
CUC is collecting prizes for the party-goers. Pam Kramer at Murphy Harpst , when asked for suggestions of Bingo prizes, replied that those “that work best” are candy bars, drinks (Gatorade, teas, sodas), Ramen noodles, and decks of playing cards. Again on February 10 a basket will be passed to collect any cash donations to pay for party expenses. The committee appreciates any support the CUC Class provides for Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center.
CUC has received several heart-warming thank you notes/letters from the teenagers who received generous gift cards which were sent to Murphy Harpst paid for with CUC’s Christmas donations. These will be displayed on the bulletin board in CUC class.
Ladies Covenant Group
Many men and women in CUC belong to covenant groups which provide an opportunity for fellowship and study together in a small group. The group that meets on Wednesdays at 11:00 in the 3rd floor B building Conference room invites any interested women to join them. Their next meeting will be Wednesday, February 20. HomeStretch Peachtree Tea
About the time winter weather is ending, the Peachtree Tea festivities are a bright spot of hope for the families of Home Stretch. The event is on Tuesday, February 26 at 11:00 am at Country Club of the South.
The day features a champagne reception and silent auction followed by a wonderful luncheon. Individual and corporate sponsorship opportunities as well as ticket sales and the purchase of raffle items go to support the work of HomeStretch. An Afternoon with Anita Renfroe
Tickets are on sale now for “An Afternoon with Anita Renfroe,” and would make a great Valentine’s Day gift! Anita is a Christian comedienne and author who became famous for “Momisms,” her comic rendition of everything a mother would typically say to her children in the course of a day, set to the “William Tell Overture.”

CUC Fellowship Plans
At Sunday’s CUC Class Mike Story announced the Fellowship Committee’s planned events for the next 6 months.
- Feb 28 – Mardi Gras dinner party at the Bradshaw Farms clubhouse. A “potluck+” where guests will bring salads, appetizers, deserts, etc., and the main entrée will be prepared by the Fellowship committee. Decorations will have a Mardi Gras theme, and wearing Mardi Gras apparel will be welcomed. There will be a $7.50 cover charge for the clubhouse rental and entrée ingredients. Sign-up sheets will start Sunday, Jan 27.
- June 26 – DOD Building CUC Potluck, coordinated by Claudia Phelps, with entertainment, and the same venue as our successful potluck a year ago. Claudia will coordinate information sharing and planning with the CUC at future Sunday Class gatherings.
- Trips – Patsy Lanham is organizing for two potential trips: one to the Chick Fil A headquarters, and one for an Atlanta “Beltline Tour”. More information will be shared in future CUC meetings by Patsy.
- Small Group Dinners – Kris Taylor is coordinating these, and she will be putting out sign-up sheets in March for dinners to be scheduled in April and May.

RUMC Name Tags
RUMC will provide magnetic name tags for you to wear for church events. If you would like one contact Gale Davis to be added to the list. If you lose the magnet to fasten it on, you can get a replacement from the church office.
Youth Hurricane Relief Support
Supplies are needed for the Altar Your Life Mission Project. RUMC Youth will be supporting hurricane relief in Panama City, Florida this spring.
Please consider donating flat bars for demolition of sheet rock, hammers, work gloves, face masks (N95), nail aprons, trash bags (large/heavy duty), shovels, brooms/dust pans, stepladders, insect repellent, sunblock, baby diapers and formula, dry dog/cat food, bed linens, towels, and gas cards.

Our speaker this Sunday is Wilson Barber, Associate Minister to Students at RUMC. His topic is “Student Ministry 101: Why a healthy Student Ministry is critical for a healthy Church”. Wilson has a passion for working with students and has been especially involved with mission trips. Wilson will help us have a better appreciation of our Student Ministry.

Booth Western Art Museum
Wednesday, November 14th at 9:00 AM is planned for a CUC trip to the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville to see the Frederic Remington exhibit. Experience the biggest Remington exhibit ever in the South, with treasures from the Frederic Remington Art Museum and Beyond. We will tour the museum and have lunch. CUC RETREAT BULLETIN
Winshape Retreat Center
The CUC Retreat at WinShape Conference Center, October 31 – November 2, 2018 is rapidly approaching. We want to keep you informed as we move toward the date.
Due to a couple of unforeseen cancellations and our negotiations with WinShape we do have rooms available. If you have not signed up and would like to attend please contact us immediately.
- SPEAKERS – Our speakers and their sessions are set. Jeff Ross will be with us Wednesday evening to start the retreat. Tom Davis will lead the morning session on Thursday, then Jeff will lead the sessions Thursday evening and Friday morning ending with Communion.
- TIMES – Arrival time is 3:00 -5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 31. We will gather in the meeting room at 5:30pm for a briefing before going to dinner at 6:00pm. The first session will begin at 7:45 pm.
- ACTIVITIES – A number of leisure opportunities will be available for Thursday afternoon. These will include a tour of Martha Berry’s mountain top home, a driving tour of the grounds and buildings of WinShape, a self guided tour of the Berry College campus, several hiking opportunities, bike riding, tennis, disc golf, bocce ball, corn hole, as well as board games in the meeting room.
One other opportunity for Thursday afternoon is a tour of Martha Berry’s home, Oak Hill and Museum near the campus. Tickets are $7.00. If we have enough interest we can get a tour guide for a group. Go on the web and look at www.berry.edu/oakhill/ . Please check this out and if you are interested we need to make reservations by October 14. Call us and let us know of your interest.
PAYMENTS – We will be collecting checks for the remaining balance for the retreat on October 14, 21, and 28. The amounts are: couple in double room – $315, single in a private room – $200 – Single sharing a room – $130.

Filling Crate for Venezuela
Venezuela’s economic collapse has resulted in medicine being unavailable or in extremely short supply along with severe food shortages tmstokes@rumc.com_hat leave most people living on one meal a day. RUMC, through Venezuela Now! will send a crate of medicine and food to God’s people in Venezuela! In total,
Venezuela Now has successfully shipped over 20 crates of food and medical supplies to the Wesley Medical Center in Cabudare, Venezuela. The medicines from the crate will be given free of charge to patients of the Medical Center and the food will be distributed to the more than 40 churches in the area operating community soup kitchens and used by the Seminary to provide meals to students while on campus for classes.
To send a full crate will require donations of over the counter medicines and food from the congregation. The reason for the specific medications is that these simple, basic items are not available to the average citizen and especially the poor. The specific food items are exactly the ingredients that go into a hearty soup that is prepared.

- · Children’s and Adult’s multi-vitamins
- · Powdered infant formula

Pastor Andrew Brunson is still on house arrest. His next hearing is October 12th and he is hopeful that he will be released. Terry and Wanda Taylor’s son Kent is Andrew’s partner in ministry. Please pray for Andrew’s release.
Pray for Mary Serafina and her daughter Pam Pruit as Pam continues her fight against cancer. Pam had her first radiation treatment this morning for tumors on her brain. She had a tumor removed from her neck/spine last week and it relieved her severe pain. She is one strong person. Mary says they feel our CUC love and prayers wrapped around them.

Mark Goodwin will be teaching our lesson Sunday. His topic is “Identity Theft”. He will be using multiple scriptures to talk about our identity in Christ and Satan’s attempt to steal our identity.

- Jim Boswell’s heart surgery was successfully completed on Monday. He is now in a regular room. He even has a dedicated person that stays with him which is a part of the hospital program. The family was very pleased with the surgeon. Family members have been coming and going so Linda feels well taken care of. Jim will probably be in the hospital another 5-7 days then remain in Cleveland for observation for another week. They appreciate the cards they have received. The address for them is: InterContinental Suites Hotel, 8800 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. Prayers have been effective – Keep them up!

- Janet Thomas’ daughter in law was diagnosed with Wegener‘s in August. It attacked her lungs and kidneys and spent some time in ICU. She is on dialysis and chemo. - Linda & Jim Boswell as Jim has open heart surgery to replace his tricuspid valve at Cleveland Clinic on Monday, September 24. . He will be in the hospital for about 10 days after surgery, and they will remain in Cleveland for a few more. They are tentatively scheduled to come home on October 6.
Linda says they feel very blessed to have this opportunity, to know they have your thoughts and prayers.
Latest news from Linda: Jim, Lisa, and I arrived in Cleveland last night (Wednesday Night). Lots of tests all day. In spare time, Jim got 6000 flood buckets and lids donated and delivery arranged. Will have more tests tomorrow, and enter the hospital on Saturday. All is well. Thanks For thoughts and prayers. - Pat (Mrs.) Cooney as she has chemo for multiple myeloma. Keep her and her husband Pat in your prayers.
- Jackie Hubbard – will have her 3rd right knee replacement on September 26th. Please pray for this to be successful.
- Marlene MacLeod has been suffering with a severe case of shingles since August 24. The shingles are subsiding now, but the pain remains constant. Pray for relief of pain.
- Bob Moore recovering from surger
- Johnie Wright’s mother, Wilma Diemer, fell Wednesday on her front porch and was having full hip replacement surgery Thursday afternoon in Cookeville, Tn. She is 89 years old.
- Received today from Sandy Martin: I received an urgent email just now from our daughter, Jennie. She has friends who have a 9 year old son, Clinton Goode, who had a serious bike accident Tuesday.
He is in ICU at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with extensive internal injuries to organs including his pancreas. They are attempting a stent to the pancreas tomorrow.
Clinton needs a miracle and I KNOW they happen. I am asking all you prayer warriors and anyone you may know to pray for this child. If you are in a prayer group, could you please add his name?

They will go up on Wednesday, September 19. He will have tests for two days, and enter the hospital on Saturday, September 22. He will be in the hospital for about 10 days after surgery, and they will remain in Cleveland for a few more. They are tentatively scheduled to come home on October 6. Calling All Seniors (age 60+)
Do you like to sing? For the Prime Time Singers, RUMC’s Senior Adult Choir under the direction of Tom Alterman, no experience or audition is necessary.
PTS rehearses on Wednesday mornings in the choir room beginning September 5 through May from 10:45 -12 noon for a fun-filled time of rehearsal and fellowship. The choir sings for the First Sunday Communion Services, Senior Adult Activities, and at venues in the community.
Homestretch Volunteers
CUC has been a big supporter of Homestretch since its very beginning. Our own Malone Dodson was an original founder of Homestretch 25 years ago when he saw the need in our community for housing for families who were homeless.
Currently CUC still has a number of active volunteers with Homestretch. Hugh and Sue Gardner work regularly in the office. Sandy Martin serves at the reception desk each Monday. Lynn Adcock serves on the Homestretch Board. Tom Knight and George Waite regularly serve on committees for fund-raising events. Ask any of these people if they know of how you might be of service in this organization

Homestretch Year End Report
As CUC has always been a big supporter of Homestretch since its very beginning it is with pleasure that we hear the statistics June to June of this year:
Of 15 families, 14 graduated. All are full-time employed and in permanent housing. Two of their kids are off to college, one an honor graduate with a full scholarship to Stanford University.
Why Could Red Bird Christian School Use 2nd Language Textbooks?
Recently Norma and David Hills took clothing, books etc. to Red Bird Missions including 2nd language textbooks.
UM Churches and volunteers with their money, labor, and materials renovated Red Bird’s two old dorms so a Residential Program could be offered. The 2 dorms house 24 students and each dorm has its own dorm parents.
Internationals attending the Residential Programs live in these dorms and concentrate on the skills of learning a new language: grammar, reading writing, vocabulary, listening and speaking. Their goals are to attend a college or university. That’s how the 2nd language textbooks are used.
To facilitate their spiritual growth, they participate in daily devotions, weekly chapel services, Sat. leadership training and 2 Bible Study courses during their high school career.
