RUMC Friday Blast – Las Vegas

Dear RUMC Family,

Monday morning we woke to the news of a mass shooting in Las Vegas. Fifty-eight people had been killed and 489 injured. Immediately, we try to find answers that might help us make sense of the event. I think we often seek to find something to make us feel safer. We search for something that will ensure the evil in a Stephen Paddock world will never touch ours. The problem is that his world has touched ours. We share the same space. Jesus doesn’t say: “Fear not, it’s just a dream. Trust me and nothing will never happen to you.” Jesus does actually weep at the grave of his friend Lazarus. Jesus does say, “Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Brokenness, grief, suffering, and mourning are a part of the arena we live in and Jesus is with us. We are not alone and he often meets us in those hurting places.

I would like to invite you to a time of prayer and healing. This is a place to meet the risen Christ and ask for His peace, power, and comfort in the lives of those who have lost loved ones. It is also a time to meet the risen Christ to mend our own brokenness as well.

Please consider joining us at a Service of Healing and Prayer, Sunday, Oct. 8, at 6:45 p.m. in the Chapel.

In His service,

Dr. Tom Davis
Senior Pastor
