What’s New at the Biblical History Center

Scott Dickson will be our speaker on Aug. 8. His topic will be “What’s new at the Biblical History Center” which is in La Grange, GA. And he will use this as scripture: So Jesus spoke again, “I assure you that I am the gate of the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and outlaws, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief enters only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came so that they could have life—indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest. John 10.7-10 (CEB)

Let’s Go!! RUMC to visit the Biblical History Center

Date: Friday, August 27.

This archaeological museum explores daily life in ancient times and brings the words and stories of the Bible to life for visitors. As one earlier RUMC visitor stated, “I learned more here in one day than I learned on a two week visit to Israel!” Depart RUMC by motor coach at 8:15 a.m. with return approximately 4:30 p.m.

Select one of the two different tours available:- The Garden Tour, a docent-led tour through the Life of the Shepherd, Life of the Farmer, and Life of the Village areas in the Archaeological Replica garden or – The “l Am” Tour, a docent-led tour of the garden, focusing on replicas giving us deeper understanding of the meaning of the “I Am” sayings of Jesus in the Gospel of John. Depart RUMC by motor coach at 8:15 a.m. with return approximately 4:30 p.m.

Each tour includes a guided visit to the Artifact Gallery, which displays over 250 ancient artifacts on loan from the Israeli Antiquities Authority, all shown in a contextual setting.

Both tour groups will enjoy a biblical meal in authentically designed meal rooms, enjoying food very similar to that Jesus and his disciples would have shared at the Last Supper.

$60/person includes transportation, tours, and meal. Register at http://www.rumc.com/adults/ (scroll down below all the study/group options). Limited space available, so register soon

CUC President’s Message

Growing UP
by Kerryn Smith

“Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!” (Psalm 130.1-2)

“Grow up!” Have you ever said that to a child? I have been guilty of telling my children to grow up when they became frustrated, crying about something they should have been able to do by themselves. We tell our children to grow up because we want them to become independent.

While we expect our children to become more independent and to run to us less for help as they mature, God wants just the opposite of his children. A mature child of God is not someone who runs less to God; a mature Christian runs to God more. God tells us to grow up. We do this when we cry more and rely more on him.

We can become irritated when our children cry for help. God, on the other hand, loves it when his children cry for help. He doesn’t mind what time of day it is or even if we cry to him about the same thing over and over. God commands us to pray this way. This helps me to appreciate when my children run to me, giving me patience and a greater willingness to listen.

How often do we cry to the Lord? Do we cry to him only when all else has failed? Let us grow up and turn to God with all our concerns.
