CUC Virtual All American Backyard Bar B Cue

This Sunday’s CUC meeting is planned by Jeff Coelho as a virtual all American backyard BBQ so that in addition to our usual announcements and prayer there will be a video, a tribute for the 4th of July, with some of the best video clips celebrating our country. Then we will have breakout sessions to gather with our CUC friends as if at a traditional 4th of July backyard BBQ.

CUC Sunday School Class on Zoom

Just enter that meeting ID when you start Zoom and you will be connected to the Sunday School meeting . Doug normally starts the meeting about 9:15 am on Sundays. This gives you a chance to say Hello, and then the class starts at 9:30 am sharpish!

Due to the limit of 100 participants Doug suggests that you watch the Class meeting on one device, such as your tablet, iPad, or computer so that it can be viewed by you and your significant other. This will give everyone a chance to view the class.

Message from CUC Pres. Sandy Griffin:

Happy Friday, July 4th Eve.

We gave Jacob the check from CUC Thursday and he was very appreciative. Jacob and his staff are a special part of RUMC. I personally thank the kitchen for being open these past weeks as I have been able to get out of the house and feel as if I am providing a service. I think I can thank them in part for my “Covid 15” because of the hot, out of the oven chocolate chip cookies! Yum!
From Jim Denison, “How can we set an example for our fractured culture, or how can we be civil in an uncivil age?

  1. Pray for discernment to see the world as they do.
  2. Build a relational bridge, earning the right to share unwelcome truth. Ken Medea says in one of his songs, “Don’t tell me I have a friend in Jesus until you show me I have a friend in you.”
  3. Say about people only what you would say to them.
  4. Remember that winning souls is more important than winning debates.
As ambassadors for Christ our appeal is simple, we implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

Have a happy and safe July 4th weekend!

MUST Summer Grocery Bag Program

RUMC plans to provide one $40 bag of groceries every week for needy families for ten (10) weeks for the MUST Summer Grocery food program.

MUST needs us to do the shopping. Members of CUC have contributed to our treasury for the MUST summer grocery program. Anyone who would like to buy and deliver items from the list to the church can do so. Please keep your receipt and send or email a copy of your receipts for Charlie Mason and you will be reimbursed from the money that has been donated for the MUST Ministry.

Another week down! Thanks for all you do!

We need it all again this week, but especially tortillas, hot dogs, hot dog buns, jelly, and canned tomatoes (diced, whole, etc.) – and always more fresh produce! This could be onions, bell peppers, oranges, apples, lemons/limes, potatoes, etc.)

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Because of the July 4th holiday, we will NOT be collecting donations this Sunday (7/5), but we WILL be open for drop-offs on Monday (7/6) from 2:00-4:00 PM. To drop off, just come to the RUMC Fellowship Hall this Monday, pull up in front of the double-doors, honk your horn, and a volunteer will come get the groceries from your car.

Thanks for all you do!

Meals from the RUMC Kitchen

The hot $5.00 takeout meals continue from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Last week we served over 315 hot meals and 220 frozen meals. Combined, we are still averaging over 130 meals a day, which is great! Please continue to promote and spread the word about the take out and frozen meals wherever you can. We will plan to have a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday schedule for lunches next week. Jacob is thinking he will keep the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday schedule for the time being unless directed otherwise. Please feel free to let him know all of your thoughts on this as to how to best serve our community for the remainder of the summer and beyond if needed.

  • Dick Anthony – biopsy was negative on reoccurrence of multiple myeloma but he is having further tests and CAT scan. Prayers also for Laverne Lamb as she cares for Dick and deals with health issues of her own.
  • Bill Griffin is having cardiac bypass surgery August 6. The stent does not seem to be working so this is the best alternative. The doctor, of course, says “No big deal. I do several of these everyday”.
  • Edna Smith who is dealing with increasing problems with Parkinson’s Disease
  • Jim McCormick – in the wee hours of Saturday morning, June 20, suffered a minor stroke. Says Jim: (Actually, minor is something that happens to someone else!) It knocked me for a loop and for a brief while I felt helpless. Fortunately, since that morning I have been improving each day. My neurologist said that he expects a complete recovery. I should be driving the car within 2-3 weeks and back on the tennis court shortly after that. Thank you for your prayers and concern. God bless!

Continuing Prayers

  • Pat (Mrs.) Cooney and (Mr.) Pat as she continues to battle multiple myeloma
  • Shirley May still recovering with post-shingles neuropathy
  • Stan & Virginia Thomason – Several CUC members talked to Stan this week. Virginia has been released from the rehab center and is now with Stan. Stan reports that she is extremely weak from all the laying in bed and much more forgetful. He says she is quiet and subdued, not like the Virginia he has known for so long. He had her out a little but she is mostly in a wheelchair and sleeps a lot. She is getting PT at home. He did say that their place in Alpharetta is under contract; so that is good news.

Special prayers for CUC members who have had severely limited outside contacts for these past few months due to Covid 19 risk.

Thanksgivings

  • John Sharp recently had a coronary artery stent placement after slight chest pain on exertion and is doing well.
  • Don McNew had a procedure for vertigo and is doing better

Thank you

  • Babs Skillings appreciates all the prayers, calls, cards and love.

Please pray for needs expressed and unexpressed for CUC members, and for friends and relatives of CUC class members who are facing illnesses, loss of loved ones, and important decisions to be made, especially at this difficult time with the Corona virus! Prayers also for our nation and its people, and for the reopening of churches.

CUC Cares and Concerns
