CUC Newsletter – May 9, 2020

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. “Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

Psalm 91; 1-3

Happy Mothers Day!

Start Something New!

Melissa (Mobley) Kime-Hall has the lesson for our CUC class this Sunday. Her title is “Start Something New!”. We look forward to her lesson.

Her Scripture is: Acts 2:36-47

“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both LORD and Messiah.”

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.The Fellowship of the Believers 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

CUC Sunday School Class on Zoom

Last Sunday we had the best turnout of all our Zoom classes. 94 attended!

Due to the limit of 100 participants Doug suggests that you watch the Class meeting on one device, such as your tablet, iPad, or computer so that it can be viewed by you and your significant other. This will give everyone a chance to view the class. Be sure to install ZOOM on your device before Sunday.

Note from CUC Pres. Sandy Griffin:

Hello CUC family. First of all I must apologize for leaving out the birthdays and anniversaries last Sunday. All birthdays and anniversaries are special but we had a 90th birthday celebration (Bob Hamilton) and a 50th wedding anniversary (Jeff and Lesleigh Coelho). Please accept my apologies.

As I was reading my Denison devotionals this week I was struck by what Joni Erickson Tada had to say. She had a horrible accident when she was a teenager and became paralyzed from the neck down. She has become a renowned speaker, author and artist. She paints with the brush in her mouth. “God permits what he hates, this difficult paralyzing injury, to accomplish something that he loves, and that is, of course, in me, a changed heart and a closer walk with my God.” Powerful! Not sure if I would have the same sentiment if it was me!

Ralph Waldo Emerson observed: “The purpose of life it not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

“See” you Sunday.
