When he came to his hometown, he taught the people in their synagogue. They were surprised and “Where did he get this wisdom? Where did he power to work miracles? Isn’t he the carpenter’s son?  Isn’t his mother named Mary? Aren’t James, Joseph Simon, and Judas his brothers? And his sisters, aren’t they here with us? Where did this man get all this?

CUC Advent Series

As we begin the Advent season, CUC will help us prepare by having  speakers using the new book by Adam Hamilton (Faithful – Christmas through the Eyes of Joseph). As we have done in the past we will be  led by members of CUC.  This week’s lesson, ‘A Carpenter Named Joseph’ will be led by our  own Gayle Crolius. Although Advent traditionally ends on December 24, we will conclude the Advent lessons on December 31st.  (RUMC has a full complement of worship services on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.)

CUC Refreshments

We are thankful for our CUC refreshments each week.  This week they will be provided by Pat & Pat Cooney and Ann & Larry Douglas

CUC Christmas Party

We are looking forward to a great Christmas party with 109 attending!  It starts at 6:00 PM and ends at 10:00 PM at the Metropolitan Club, 5895 Windward Parkway, Alpharetta.  Directions:  Go north on 400 to the Windward Parkway exit.  Turn right and then right again at the second traffic light onto Edison.
The Metropolitan Club is on your right in a brown office building on the first floor.

Don’t forget to bring your “White Elephant” in the bag provided.  Pick a bag up on Sunday at CUC or bring your White Elephant with you to the party, and a bag will be provided there if you don’t have one already. There have been questions about what constitutes a white elephant present.  It needs to be no larger than a Puffs tissue box (cube), so it will fit into the bag.  It can be anything that you have received as a gift that you will never use, something you forgot to put into the RUMC garage sale, or something you got at the dollar store.  It can be either garish (ugly Christmas socks, tie, ornament, etc.), funny, or whatever.  Please put some tissue in the bag, so the white elephant won’t be visible.

Please call Vince or Donna Grosse if you have any questions.

A White Christmas for Murphy Harpst

As the result of CUC asking about a practical need at Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center, we are continuing to  collect white bath towels for the teenagers there.  Since the teenagers are responsible for doing their own laundry, towels are in demand.   A large laundry hamper decorated with a big ribbon continues to be be available in the CUC classroom on Sundays.

CUC’ers, we have 2 Sundays to go before this Christmas White Towel Shower ends.  Keep those wash cloths and towels coming.  Another delivery will be made to M-H after December 10.  Thank you, every one, for your generous donations!  Thanks for sharing Christmas Blessings!  Questions?  Contact Norma Hills, or Claudia Phelps

Operation Christmas  Child

Lynn  Roberts  reports ….Thank you to CUC for your great participation in the gathering of gifts for children in need. We collected over 100 boxes in CUC, as well as those who did theirs online and cash donations to help defray mailing expenses. The church as a whole collected 173 as of a week ago Tuesday and since I was gathering all of them I could not keep an exact separate count.
Thank you one and all, and when you get photos of the children receiving their gift boxes and the joy on those adorable faces, you know the joy the Lord feels as well. Blessing to each of you, may all of your Christmas season be filled with joys such as these.
