Good Morning from Honduras to our Prayer Teams at Home! It’s Sunday morning and the roosters are up calling us to get out of bed! It is 2 hours earlier here and we are up with the sun (and the roosters!) We will travel on the big yellow bus to our school this morning where the children and all the pastors in the area have prepared a community worship service under the big very old tree in the school yard. We are excited to see that the concrete path has been completed to the school buildings that we left unfinished on our last trip. In fact, we now know that the 8 computers we brought on the last trip are in full use, set up as a “computer lab” for the children to rotate through, used by the 8th and 9th-grade classes.

The men building the school made huge progress yesterday! There are so many people here helping the community! Yesterday, our men made the steel rebar frames that were embedded in the cement while 20 or more men from the Los Tablos community worked on digging, lifting huge rocks, and mixing cement. Everyone worked tirelessly and with purpose. Meanwhile, our women created a “pop-up boutique” with clothes mostly provided by Claudia Phelps in CUC for all the moms and teachers. One tearful mom said this was the first new skirt she had in 5 years. (she had to go out of her way to tell us that as we had to find Allison Phelps to tell us what she was saying!!). Meanwhile, Allison (see below) reading Bible stories to the children and we followed up with crafts that matched the stories prepared by the “Stay Teams” at home in Roswell.

Our new partner, Missions in Action, is doing an awesome job handling all the logistics….food, hotel, transportation, timing, people from the community to help, translators…everything…they even found ice cream for Bill Scott!! Suzanne brought with her RN Nurse Brenda (who has a watchful eye and stays on top of all health issues), an experienced Bible School leader, Carol Myers, Pastor Charlie Green from Clayton (seminary with Steve Dodson at Candler), and a host of people who live here in Honduras who have kept us on track. One of the men who live
One of the men who lives here is passionate about our mission as he is a direct product of a school taken care of by Missions in Action. MIA has been working in Honduras 20 years. Suzanne and her sister, Julie (lead MIA) are daughters of a Methodist pastor who went to Candler with Malone Dodson. They have a real passion for taking care of the people of Honduras.
Please continue to pray for safety and for our team. We read your encouraging notes to the team at night when we gather up for devotion and share our daily experiences. Please keep your notes coming!
Love from your RUMC Mission Team in Honduras
